Preserving Heritage Through Art: Own a unique piece of Cape Town History

Muizenberg, Cape Town – The Beach Hut 2025 Art Show is set to captivate art lovers and heritage enthusiasts alike, combining creative expression with a vital cause: the ongoing preservation of Muizenberg's iconic beach huts. Running through February to March from Wednesday to Saturday at Beach Huts Studios, this unique fundraising initiative offers the community a chance to own extraordinary artwork while supporting the future of these beloved landmarks, the Muizenberg Beach Huts.

After the renovations of the Beach Huts in Muizenberg were completed, the organisers were tasked with funding the ongoing maintenance of these uniquely iconic structures. Dubbed “Cape Town’s MOST iconic structures,” the Beach Huts are a key part of Cape Town’s image. In fact, they are arguably South Africa’s most iconic structures.
The Beach Hut 2025 Art Show was born as a response. Celebrated local artists have collaborated to create stunning, beach hut-inspired pieces, each carefully curated by AJ Burns and Gavin Larkin. Adding to its uniqueness, each artwork is framed in certified original wood recovered from the refurbishment of the Beach Huts. These unique frames are designed by local framer and artist Adrian van Staaden from Cape Art and Frame and fabricated by Beach Hut Studios. They are truly a once-in-a-lifetime creation. This reclaimed wood is the last of its kind, as the newly rebuilt huts now use sustainable and long-lasting Nutec material.

Beach Hut Studios played a pivotal role in this initiative. A newly created space for artistic collaboration, Beach Hut Studios explores the opportunities that Beach Huts bring to the community, both locally and nationally. The initiative highlights the benefits these structures bring to the tourism economy while fostering job creation and local skills development. By engaging with local artists and crafters and supporting preservation efforts, Beach Hut Studios ensures that Muizenberg’s rich culture and history are celebrated and sustained.

Proceeds from the sale of all artworks goes towards funding the ongoing maintenance of the Beach Huts, which is already creating employment in preserving these icons. So they can continue to represent Cape Town and South Africa in showcasing our colourful diversity and unique offerings throughout the world.
The Beach Huts 2025 Art Show has officially launched and will run for a 2 month period. The studio is open Wed to Sat, 10am to 6pm. Located in the old post office building in Muizenberg, it’s an intimate space that overlooks the very Beach Huts themselves.
